BORDERHOP

Land borders of every country

152 countries and the neighbours they share a land border with. China and Russia border the most countries, 14 each. 14 countries have just one land neighbour, including Brunei, Canada, Denmark and East Timor.

How BorderHop counts borders

BorderHop counts land borders between countries on the same continent. Borders along rivers and through lakes count as land borders (Chad and Nigeria meet only in Lake Chad; in the Americas game, Pennsylvania and Ontario meet in Lake Erie); borders at sea don’t. Exclaves count, so Russia borders Poland and Lithuania through Kaliningrad; these are flagged as technical borders, along with the 150 m Botswana–Zambia crossing at Kazungula. Territories on another continent don’t count: Spain’s Ceuta and Melilla don’t connect Spain to Morocco, and French Guiana doesn’t connect France to Brazil or Suriname. Island nations with no land border aren’t included.
